At The Book World, we are committed to your complete satisfaction. If you are not entirely happy with your purchase, we’re here to help. This policy outlines your rights and our procedures for returns and refunds, in accordance with UK consumer law.
1. Your Legal Right to Cancel (The “Cooling-Off” Period) Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel your order for any item (except personalised or made-to-order books) from the moment you place your order until 14 calendar days after the day you receive your goods.
You then have a further 14 calendar days from the day you notify us of cancellation to return the items to us.
2. Eligibility for Returns To be eligible for a return and refund, your item must be:
- Unwanted and cancelled within the 14-day cooling-off period.
- In its original condition: unused, unread, and in the same packaging you received it in.
- Accompanied by proof of purchase (e.g., your order number or receipt).
3. Non-Returnable Items Certain types of items cannot be returned for a refund unless they are faulty:
- Digital Products: This includes e-books, audiobook downloads, and PDFs. Due to their nature, these cannot be “returned” once the download is complete.
- Personalised Products: Books or items that have been customised or made-to-order to your specification.
4. Your Legal Rights to a Refund for Faulty Goods Your consumer rights are protected under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If an item is faulty, damaged, or not as described, you are entitled to a full refund. Please contact us immediately. You have up to 30 days from receipt of the item to return it for a full refund if it is faulty.
5. How to Initiate a Return or Report a Faulty Item To start a return, please get in touch with our customer service team within the eligible timeframe. This is a key requirement for Google Ads compliance and allows us to process your request efficiently.

- Post: The Book World, 40 Hanover Ave, Woodhouse, Leeds LS3 1BQ, United Kingdom
Please provide your name, order number, and the reason for your return.
6. Return Shipping Costs
- Unwanted Items (Change of Mind): You are responsible for paying the return postage costs for unwanted items. We recommend using a tracked delivery service, as we cannot be responsible for items lost in transit.
- Faulty, Damaged, or Incorrect Items: If the item is faulty or we sent you the wrong product by mistake, we will cover the cost of return shipping. We will provide you with a pre-paid returns label or instruct you on how to proceed.
7. Refunds Process Once we receive and inspect your returned item, we will send you an email to notify you of its status.
If your return is approved, your refund will be processed automatically. A credit will be applied to your original method of payment within 10 working days.
Please note:
- You will not receive a refund for the original cost of standard shipping.
- The time it takes for the refund to appear in your account may depend on your bank or card issuer’s policies.
8. Exchanges The fastest way to ensure you get the book you want is to return the original item for a refund (following the process above) and place a new order separately.
